Overview

Type 436 stainless steel is another ferritic stainless steel widely used for automobile industry, whether in terms of automobile trim or automobile exhaust pipe. With some molybdenum (0.75%~1.25%) added into 430 stainless steel, we get 434 stainless steel with enhanced corrosion resistance. And with some columbium (5C≦Nb≦0.80) added into type 434, we get stainless steel 436. Hence, stainless steel 436 is widely known as a Nb-version of type 434, designed for minimization of “roping” or “ridging” during stretch forming work.

Features of 436 Stainless Steel

With the addition of molybdenum, 436 stainless steel features enhanced corrosion resistance in comparison with the basic 430 ferrite. Type 436 is readily drawn and formed, adaptable to most hot-forming operations. During the forming operations, it does tend to ridge slightly, but the addition of columbium minimizes this situation. Type 436 has slightly higher yield strength than 430 in the annealed condition, hence it will require stronger tooling and increased power.

Density (at 20 ºC): 7.80 g/cm3
