STAINLESS STEEL 347
Overview
347 is an austenitic stainless steel containing niobium. In terms of chemical composition, 347 can be seen as 304 stainless steel with the addition of niobium. Niobium is a kind of rare earth element, which performance is similar to titanium. When added to the alloy, niobium can refine grains, resist intergranular corrosion and increase strength without reducing plasticity. It can thus save cost by reducing the thickness of the material and be used for structural strength parts.
Type 347 exhibits good corrosion resistance in acid, alkali and salt liquid. It has good oxidation resistance and weldability in air below 800°C. In comparison with 304 stainless steel, 347 stainless steel features excellent high temperature stress rupture and high temperature creep resistance performance.
Features of Inox 347
- 1) It features excellent corrosion resistance comparable to 304 stainless steel.
- 2) It restrains chromium carbide formation, resists sensitization, and has good intergranular corrosion resistance between 427°C and 816°C.
- 3) It exhibits certain strength of creep resistance even in strong oxidizing environment at high temperature of 816°C.
- 4) It is easy to form and weld.
- 5) It has good low temperature toughness.
Overall, 347 has similar performance like 321 (304 plus Ti) but is superior to 321.
347 Applications
- 1) Petrochemical, food, paper, etc.;
- 2) Exhaust manifold and branch pipe of aero engine;
- 3) Turbine compressor hot gas pipeline;
- 4) Parts that work under small loads and at temperatures not exceeding 850°C;
- 5) Others.
