Overview

410 stainless steel is known as one of the most commonly used martensitic steel. It contains 11.5% above chromium, giving it just moderate corrosion resistance. Martensite 410 is hardenable through heat treatment with a wide range of properties achievable. Whether annealed or hardened, stainless steel 410 keeps magnetic. Due to its hardenability, its weldability is correspondently weakened though possible. Its applications are also limited by the working temperature which, when high will decrease the strength, when low will weaken its ductility. Grade 410 is suitable for applications which require high strength but moderate corrosion and heat resistance.

Features of Stainless Steel 410

410 stainless steel features good tensile strength, creep and fatigue strength but mild corrosion resistance. After annealing, it can be moderately drawn and formed with reasonably good cold working properties. The heat treatment applicable to grade 410 involves annealing, hardening, quenching, tempering and stress relief. As martensitic steel, type 410 is one of the most difficult -to -weld stainless steel. The chemical balance makes stainless steel 410 feature higher strength and hardness yet less ductility.
