The Design of Simple Coffee Paris
Simple Coffee Paris was designed by Mur Mur Architects, a native studio led by Benoît Huen and Lucie Rosenblatt. Following a sing-room layout, the architectures intentionally preserved the building’s former corner storefront, furnishing it with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, neon lights and customizable alcoves. The setting gives rise to an intimate and nostalgic ambiance that neutralizes its cool industrial impression. The effect is a space feeling like stretching and folding back on its own. The large bay windows are decorated with removable glass louvers to invite natural light in while allowing passersby to catch a glimpse of its bold and extraordinary contemporary interior. The design sophistication goes beyond this. The counter is deliberately placed against the storefront to display the baristas’ craftsmanship, with the guest seating arranged along the back walls to create a sense of privacy. There is a kitchen downstairs, separated from the main floor above where customer experience remains the focus.
The highlight of the design must be the silos, or the rounded alcoves, which the architects informed to draw inspiration from grain silos. “We selected this form to create deep, intimate and comfy alcoves during which one can curl up,” said the studio co-founder Huen. Silos are tubular buildings that store bulk commodity such as grain or coal (Improve My Home 24, 2024). Through the thoughtful design, Simple Coffee exhibits a distinctive Parisian café vibe that blends industrial rigor with sculptural calm, generating a spatial morphology that aligns with its time yet timeless.
Stainless Steel Applied to Simple Coffee Paris
Simple coffee Paris is an all-stainless-steel café where the counter, the built-in seating, the disc above, the half-moon-like nooks and the tables are all crafted from stainless steel. The satellite-dish-shaped discs are removable and adjustable, allowing customers to optimize the desirable neon strip illumination effect and create their personal atmosphere per their preference.
Each of the furniture in Simple Coffee was specially customized for this project and produced by the local furniture manufacturers Atelier Hephaïstos Normandie. They were produced from bent stainless steel sheets.
